Uncle Hồ leading the song “Kết đoàn” [Solidarity] is a black and white photo by photographer Lâm Hồng Long, capturing the moment President Hồ Chí Minh was conducting the symphony orchestra to play the song “Kết đoàn”. This is one of two works that made Lâm Hồng Long become one of the first photographers to receive Hồ Chí Minh Award. (According to Wikipedia)
Since the photo was taken by photographer Lâm Hồng Long on September 3, 1960, it has become a symbol of Vietnamese music.

Vietnamese fine arts also has a rare photo that is less known – perhaps because it has not been popular in the media and documents. The photo was taken by photographer Lê Vượng in 1960. During a visit with Fine Arts Researcher Nguyễn Hải Yến, Viet Art View was shared this precious photo.
Uncle Hồ visiting The Third National Exhibition, September 26, 1960
The photo shows President Hồ Chí Minh talking to artist Trần Văn Cẩn – who was then the General Secretary of Việt Nam Fine Arts Association. The photo was taken on the occasion Uncle Hồ visited the 3rd National Fine Arts Exhibition, September 26, 1960. At the same time in June 1960, photographer Lâm Hồng Long took a photo of Uncle Hồ leading the song “Kết đoàn”.
In the photo, President Hồ is smiling and talking to artist Trần Văn Cẩn. His two hands raised to describe a movement in the painting in front of him – the movements of the characters in the painting – which is the lacquer work “Bailing water for the field in dry season” by artist Trần Văn Cẩn in 1958, currently in the collection of Việt Nam Fine Arts Museum.
The photo is simple but contains within it the great concern and affection that Uncle Hồ had for culture in general and the fine arts in particular. It is known that three years earlier, in 1957, he also assigned the task of creating the Soviet Nghệ Tĩnh paintings to Việt Nam Fine Arts Association. He also directly approved the sketches and selected medium with the group of six assigned artists (Nguyễn Đức Nùng, Trần Đình Thọ, Nguyễn Văn Tỵ, Sỹ Ngọc, Huỳnh Văn Thuận, Phạm Văn Đôn).

Arts Researcher Nguyễn Hải Yến – a relative of photographer Lê Vượng was very moved when she found the precious documentary photo after years of thinking it was lost. Her voice was excited when she gave the photo to Viet Art View. She wanted to send the photo for Viet Art View to share with people. Through that, the photo will spread the great image of President Hồ Chí Minh – the national liberation hero and outstanding cultural figure of Việt Nam. (According to the resolution honoring him in 1987, at the 24th session of the UNESCO General Assembly)
After 65 years, the people related to the photo – beloved Uncle Hồ, artist Trần Văn Cẩn and photographer Lê Vượng are all gone. But the beautiful and meaningful images expressing His respect for the labor and creativity of artists will certainly live forever in the minds of generations of Vietnamese people.
