Soviet Nghệ Tĩnh – From History to Art

Soviet Nghệ Tĩnh was a revolutionary movement of the workers and peasants that arose in several places in Nghệ An and Hà Tĩnh provinces in the early days after Việt Nam Communist Party was founded. Despite being oppressed by the French colonialists and the feudal class, the fighting spirit of Soviet Nghệ Tĩnh movement strongly encouraged the revolution of the whole country, contributing to the great victory of the August Revolution. Soviet Nghệ Tĩnh became an immortal heroic epic, opening the glorious pages of history of Việt Nam Communist Party.

27 years after Soviet Nghệ Tĩnh movement, President Hồ Chí Minh directly assigned the task of Việt Nam Fine Arts Association to create a work on this topic. The group of artists assigned to create the painting included six artists: Nguyễn Đức Nùng (1914-1983), Nguyễn Văn Tỵ (1917-1992), Phạm Văn Đôn (1918- 2000), Nguyễn Sỹ Ngọc (1919-1990), Trần Đình Thọ (1919-2011), Huỳnh Văn Thuận (1921-2017).

“Soviet Nghệ Tĩnh” is a monumental painting in terms of composition, the result of a meticulous research process and serious artistic work by the group of the artists. It is the combination of art – history – people that creates the expressive depth and special vitality of the work.

On the occasion of the commemoration day of Soviet Nghệ Tĩnh movement on September 12, Viet Art View respectfully shares with you art lovers a documentary film titled “Soviet Nghệ Tĩnh – From History to Art”, once again we relive the heroic years of our nation, promoting patriotism and pride of people born on the country Việt Nam.
