“Landscape of Midlands in the North” is a traditional lacquer painting on a screen by Phạm Hậu. The work belongs to the early period when Vietnamese artists created traditional lacquer painting using the scrubbing technique, and also the early period in Phạm Hậu’s artistic legacy.
Even from these times, Phạm Hậu established an aesthetic structure of exemplary beauty. The work depicts a combination of nature, architecture, and people, where beliefs, materials, and artistic thought meet in a state of balance. From a specific landscape, Phạm Hậu celebrated cultural landscapes, images of the homeland, and above all, the spirit and identity of Việt Nam in art.
